Dr. Zakarian is an incredible doctor. His treatment philosophy is the most advanced in dentistry. The other reviews I've read here are unrealistic and untrue. He was gentle, astute and diagnosed my complex dental issues accurately. He did surgery on my molars and I must say I've had the least amount of swelling of any dental procedure I've ever had.

About Front Desk: Wonderful front desk people. They were informative, returned calls promptly and were intelligent.

Even after many years, I think of this dentist daily. Not because he's a nice man, which he appears to be, but because the work that he did continues to cause me pain and trouble. During my first visit to him, he poked a nerve while giving an injection, causing the right half of my tongue to be numb for over 6 months. After I was foolish enough to consider this a rare mistake, and took his advice to have a crown replaced, he exerted such pressure on the tooth while grinding it down that I was in bed for 2 days afterwards. I have had extensive dental work in the past... I'm used to getting crowns, and never have I had it even remotely that bad. I was not able to eat on that side without pain for over a year and a half. Then infection set in on that same tooth, creating an abscess, requiring a root canal and a new crown, as his was set poorly. Besides the years of trouble each time I ate something, it is costing me nearly $2,000 to fix what he was paid over $1,000 to do. When I asked him to discuss the tooth in question with my current dentist and then call me back to take up the matter, he promised to do so right away. But after several weeks he has not called my dentist, and does not return calls from me to his office.

Don't go to this dentist office - Dr. Zakarian diagnosed me with needing a root canal and I am not even sure that I needed one. When over the weekend the pain got so bad and I had to go into the dental office (which can be normal with root canals) I was charged a ridiculous amount of money just to receive a pain pill. My recommendation - find another dentist.

Dr. Zakarian gave me a crown which, due to leakage, lasted less than a year.

Dr. Zakarian, first of all his office is beautiful and relaxing. Treatment room looks out into beautiful courtyard with pond, turtles, fish, trees. He is very good at numbing you up and seems to do a thorough job. He used accupuncture for pain and relaxation after having a tooth pulled and sold me some herbal tablets to help calm nerve down and avoid root canal. The tablets worked nicely, have not lost a tooth in spite of having serious drilling of large fillings. His specialty seems to be removing amalgam fillings but he does not push you to have it done if you are not interested. His receptionist is just the nicest person and remembers everything about you, names of family, animals, etc. Wait times are minimal. Overall a pleasant experience. He does not take insurance so that is a drawback as dental work is expensive. Also, I like to know all the details of what is being done, every step of the way and he does not always explain everything that he is doing in the moment, the way I like. I guess after seeing so many patients it is not always easy to take that kind of time with each one.

Dr. Zakarian and his office staff are very poor when it comes to expectation setting. Joy,the receptionist is very nice, however I had a number of problems. When I scheduled my initial exam & cleaning, there was misunderstanding that they were going to do a cleaning & they wanted me to come back for it. I once had a filling replaced & was not told it was a 2-part procedure involving parts that had to be made and a temporary filling. Then, when I was scheduled for the follow-up to finish, they called me less than an hour before my appt. (for which I had travelled home early from an business trip) that the part was not available yet. They also did a referral for me to a periodontist & it was important for me to get in before my coverage through my former employer expired. They had 3 weeks to get the paperwork over to the specialist, but when I arrived form my appointment, he wouldn't see me because Zakarian's office had never sent them the referral paperwork, and the specialist couldn't get in touch with them on the spot to get it either. As a result, my coverage expired before it was possible to get another appointment. Dr. Z does not accept my new insurance, and I'm not disappointed at all. It is time to find someone new.
