I visited DMD for the first time about 2 years ago with a complaint of sensitivity of teeth to coldness. I had the benefit of a thorough examination by Dr.Gondi and scaling and deep cleaning of gums by his staff. After the conclusion of these operations I had the benefit of counseling by Dr.Gondi on good practices of personal dental care. Recently, I had to visit DMD for help regarding the same problem of sensitivity of teeth to coldness. Dr.Gondi referred to the old records and asked me if I were following his instructions regarding dental care. It transpired that I was transgressing one or two of his instructions. Then he told me in an even and firm tone that as a professor I must be aware that a teacher can only remain a helpless spectator if the student does not follow the instructions of the teacher and consequently does not show much progress in studies. He told me that a doctor’s plight is exactly similar. He then counseled me again on how I should take care of my gums. His reasoned criticism shamed me in to silence and strengthened my resolve to care for my health better. His attitude reminded me of the words of the Hippocratic oath, ‘there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and ....'
