We were in a situation where our dental insurance was about to run out in one week.we needed quick care yet desired an IAOMT dentist who cares about patients and had good technologies (ozonated water and laser for cleaning/bacteria and 3d low-radiation x-rays, etc. ) Dr.Malterud's receptionist Colleen made numerous calls (sometimes from home ! ) to and for us before we made the 4 hour journey to see him. Rachel was kind enough to try to find somewhere closer for us to go, but they were willing to work on a Thursday for us as a favor. (their normal day off.) We felt so great about their services before we even left town, that we knew we found the right dentist...a true professional operation through and through. Boy were we right ! When we arrived, Rachel immediately took my 4 year old to the toy room to show her the toys and to free me up do do electronic "paperwork" with the very efficient Colleen. Wednesday was game plan day...for the work to be done Thursday. Mindy, the assistant did a really cool 3d x-ray to see what they were working with. they can see the teeth from all angles and take readings to best treat each problem. Dr. Malterud was unlike any Dentist I've ever seen in that he was very friendly, caring, professional, and explained exactly what was going on in words i could understand, and showed visual proof via x-ray. I've been to many dentists and none of them noticed or even mentioned calculus on the backside of my teeth that were affecting my gum health.i was shown proof on the X-ray. He talked to us about multiple things such as toothpastes, our question of drinking distilled water versus tap, how to minimize the effect of drinks on teeth, and the use of fluoride. He was very knowledgeable about EVERYTHiNG. We came up with our game plan for the work to be done the next day.We started at 8 am. I was no easy case, I had two broken teeth so he did two extractions and a root canal. He flawlessy numbed me with some anesthetics, and was thoughtful enough to give me a long-acting one to get over the pain curve. I was in the chair awhile, awake and alert, as he was working his magic. he kept me informed the whole time of what was going on. Midway through he noticed some decay on a tooth with a metal amalgam and I gave the thumbs up to fix it while he had me numbed and easy access. I now happily have less mercury in my mouth. Treating this at a later date would have costed more. He was very cost-conscious that way, which is rare in these days. While all this was going on I was just so impressed with how he wanted to get everything just right for a better outcome. His assistant Mindy was at the ready and offered me breaks, etc. Dr. Malterud was very meticulous and I felt ZERO pain. I didn't know this at the time but my wife went on a walk with our 4 year old , after Colleen suggested a nice route. Talk about above and beyond. When they were done everything looked great and my problems of immediate need were addressed. we looked at an after X-ray of the abscess and the filling work was perfection, and the abscess was all but gone after his laser and ozonated water did their thing. We talked about work for the future for when I had insurance again. To our amazement, Colleen was kind enough to submit our claim to my insurance for us.. Yet again going above and beyond. She even offered my wife a ride somewhere before work if we needed it. Wow! They really went out of their way for us, seeing us the same week we sent them an email, on their usual day off. They helped us, people in need, and we are extremely grateful and hope their business succeeds beyond their wildest expectations, because they truly are top-notch.While I was being counseled by Dr.Malterud I noticed he does a lot of charity work for the needy and I really respect that as well. As it turned out later, I had ZERO after-pain also ! After some filling work , drilling, extractions, and a root canal, I needed ZERO pain meds other than one round of aleve as an inti-inflammatory. I was even called on Saturday so they could see how I was doing! I found my long term dentist. I wll drive four hours one-way for it, because I am convinced I won't find better care. If you are looking for a dentist, you can't find a more minimally invasive one with all the technologies , skills, knowledge, and respect that you will get from Dr.Malterud and his staff. Just go there...you will not regret it!
