While I was Dr. Mitchell's patient he performed a root canal treatment on a molar. A few years later, while still his patient, my upper jaw swelled and became sore. Dr. Mitchell gave me antibiotics and the problem subsided. Then, during the Christmas/New Year holidays the problem returned more severely. The office was closed for the week, so my son left a message describing the emergency and requesting an immediate call back when the office opened again. By this time my cheek was red and a little swollen. We waited for the entire day after the office reopened, but no call. So we called again the next day and were told that they were "too busy" to return our call. We went to another dentist, who diagnosed an abcess and infection in the root canal of the tooth that Dr. Mitchell had treated. The new dentist made an emegency appointment with an endodontist the next day so that the infection could be cleaned out and the tooth sealed. I was 93 at that time.

I have been with Dr Robert David Mitchell for over 25 years. I am an old fart - 75. Before that I was with his dad R. Dale Mitchell for about 15 years. R Dale was the salt of the earth. A great compassionate dentist and a part-time instructor of the UW dent school program. (He died about 4 years ago (probably from eating too much, like I am wont to do.) I believe David also helps out at the UDub program. Dale had R David do my first 4 front tooth crowns back in the late '70s. Fabulous. R David graduated #2 in his UW dent school class. David had one of his brothers do the lab work which was impeccable. He later did most of my mouth in crowns. R David was also one of the most inexpensive dentists in the area. Quality care on the cheap. In the last 8 years or so, though, he hired a dental assistant or two, to help in the clean-up and smoothing of fillings and crowns to clean away the dust and debris. I like the old days. Nothing like a dentist. He runs the office like a production line. But the office staff is like family and a great group. His hygiensts are first rate and also have been. As an established pt you get to see him right away if you have a problem. If you're not, it's like pulling teeth.
