I have been with this dentist for several years now. I have ok treatment from this dentist. The dentist partners seem to have a very high turnover and the quality of dental service is somewhat unreliable. The worst part of all the front desk and office management service is below average. I tolerate mediocre service because of the convenient downtown location. I have had enougjt of their inflexibility and lack of customer service I experience in the last visit that I will not go back there again.

About Hygienist: Doug is good and gentle. Don't go to Randy, unfriendly and inflexible and rough with my mouth.

I know this doctor: 5 years

Skill as a dentist seems fine. I am leaving to find another dentist because of customer service and chairside manner. Often he walked in, without saying much other than hi, went in and out of the room with no explanation of what he was doing. I felt like a cog on an assembly line, and frankly felt my presence was tolderated as a necessary evil. Throughout the crown procedure, little things were missing, like offering me a mirror to see what things looked like, or would look like. Lots of heavy sighs. Just seemed like someone who hated their job. If you are looking for a fiendly dentist, this is not the one.

About Hygienist: All other staff in the office were nice, friendly and helpful.

Not child friendly. Does not accomodate families. Receptionist rude, haughty. Difficult to find. Expensive parking, not validated.

Dr. Buchanan is polite and the dental work is decent. Everyone is so busy in the office, but I think everyone tries the best that they can.

Not a pleasant experience. There was a disregard for pain. The procedures were executed well and effeciently there is a factory feeling about the treatments. The doctor did not follow my instructions and I lost a tooth because of it. There was a complete disregard about the high prices charged. It is a money mill.

Good! Dr. Buchananon was very nice and helpful. However, one of the receptionists was rude, controlling and uncompassionate.

I have had no major dental work completed, but overall preventative care has been good at Gateway Dental Center.

Good service, really good cleaning. I am unsure about the list given for work and getting a second opinion, but I don't doubt part of the list I have had done.

Dr Buchanan highly recommended an old fill replacement as a preventative measure (note that there was no problems with the old fill). It ended up taking 3 appointments, a painful month, and ultimately a root canal, since when he replaced the fill with a new one, my nerve got infected. Another teeth has an old fill which Dr Buchanan was planning to replace as well. I have declined, and the "old" fill is still in three years later with no problems. I questioned Dr Buchanan over this ordeal, and he said that they really haven't done anything that did not need to be done, it just took more appointments since they've gone in steps to the ultimate root canal instead of instigating a root canal right away (remember my tooth was perfectly fine when this started). To this day, I still don't see any benefits of having started the replacement of my old fill when there were no signs of infection or problems and when it ultimately ended with the most drastic measure (root canal+ crown+$$$+pain+work time lost). Moreover, he wants to do it again on a perfectly healthy tooth that may not have the best looking fill over it.

A nice place, some problems with the teeth, dont know if that is common or from dental work. Great equipment.
