OK, was avg for basic cleaning, nothing substantial to review, but crooked business practice

About Front Desk: Very poor business practice. I went to Dr. Litwin for the first time last month. They suggested that I get a full mouth x-ray since I was a new patient. I was hesitant because I had x-rays done recently, but they said it was covered by my insurance and I might as well get it done. I made it clear to the hygienist that I would get the x-ray done if it was in fact 100% covered, otherwise I did not want it. I said this twice. They went to check and assured me it was covered, so I proceeded to get it done. One month later I get a call from receptionist in the office to tell me that the x-ray was in fact not covered. The very x-ray I said I did not really want, and I definitely did not want if I had to pay for it. The office manager was then put on the phone and he started to yell at me, and fight with me. He argued that it was not their fault because the insurance told them that they would cover it 100%, and when the insurance didn't t the debt should fall to me. They argued with me, they belittled me, and raised their tone with me on the phone trying to convince me how this was now my responsibility despite what we agreed upon. Like putting a price on an item you purchase and calling you to charge you more a month later. They wanted me to do the footwork to obtain the money from my insurance company or to pay them the difference out of pocket. A good business would absorb the cost after telling you something was covered, a good business would not call you and fight with you after an agreed upon service. A good business would not talk to you like you are and idiot and tell you "you know that small pamphlet you get from you insurance company, where it tells you what is covered, it is your responsibility to know what it is covered." As a provider if you told me you called my insurance and they told you something was covered 100%, I'm going to trust you. Besides who knows every little detail of their insurance? I told them that I would not pay them for the service and would fight it in small claims. Despite them constantly backing their end as being in the right, they told me they do not respond to threats and instantly withdrew the fee and banned me form ever coming back to the office. That does not sound like the actions of someone who is in the right. A good business does not ban you from their office, after they are the ones who tried to screw you. It disgusts me how this practice treated me as a new customer. They should have taken responsibility for their error instead of talking to me the way they did, trying to make me pay for their lost money, and proudly proclaiming I am no longer welcome there because of their error. Terrible business ethic, and F grade service. I do not recommend.

About Hygienist: Told me I was covered, crooked.

As I grew older, my teeth lost their youthful appearance. I went to Dr. Litwin to ask her to help me with my smile. Her gentle treatment and demand for perfection have given me a smile that I am SO proud to wear. The entire staff is there to help every step of the way. People tell me all the time that I have a great smile and often ask who my dentist is. I have and aways will recommend Dr. Litwin to all of my closest friends and family, as well as to strangers on the train, street, etc.

9 months ago, I went to Dr. Litwin for a cracked crown. During the initial consultation, she informed me that I've been ruining my dental work over the year by grinding my teeth at night. She suggested various procedures including a night guard costing $4222 in total, and I figured I should "do it right" by following through. She offered a 10% off incentive if I paid in full, and I'm responsible for tracking down the reimbursement from my insurance. Anyway, I had to visit her office a dozen of times to work on the crown because the temporary crown kept cracking (at one point I was only eating steamed brussels spouts) and the permanent crown wasn't properly made. She blamed the Lab for the mistake. After several impressions and fittings over a few visits, the crown STILL doesn't fit. There is a step between it and the surrounding molar. On top of that, her hygienist noticed a potential cavity in an area she worked on, and that area is now sensitive to cold and heat. That broke the camels back, and decided not to go back. I walked in with a broken crown and walked out with more problems. She meant well, but I think it's best not to perform any unnecessary procedures and focus ONLY on the "problem" areas.
