The best Dentist I ever had! Paid special attention to my case. Lost bottom teeth in a car accident and he treated my 911 situation with a calm urgency. I love Doctor Kern.

I had a crown over 31 years ago done by Dr. Kern & it has been the best with no problems. I've had other dentist put crowns in & still have problems.

In 1972 Dr. Kern performed a full upper and lower bridge using the existing 11 teeth left as a result of earlier decay and a car accident. After moving from Va Bch in 1975 I have used dentists in CA, AZ, MS and FL. They have all expressed amazement at the quality and especially the durability of his work. I think that their collective compliments speak very well for Dr. Ken.

I have been a patient of Dr Kern for about seven years and have had excellent service since day one. Dr Kern has done both veneers and crowns for me and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr Kern demands perfection, and on more than one occassion he was not happy with the color match from his suppier and sent the crown back for replacement. He is an artist/ perfectionist and your smile is his canvas. If people can't tell you have had a lot a dental work, he has done a great job! HIs tableside manner may appear gruff but he truly cares about what he is doing. I think his rates are reasonable and he has always been accomodating during emergencies such as when I broke a veneer from grinding my teeth. He was quick to get me worked into the schedule and have the veneer replaced before I left for vacation. Dr. Kern keep up the great work! Jeff Hutchison

I chose this dentist from the Dominion Dental provider list, and couldn't have been more appalled. First, the location is a converted apartment. The procedure rooms, are just little corners sectioned out and separated by office type cubicles. I could totally hear the work being done and conversations being had with other patients. I would wait typically 30 minutes or more before the receptionist was even ready to check me in, and she was never terribly friendly. They only keep so many appts available for Dominion patients, and you're not able to make an appointment 6mo out for your next visit. They just tell you to call about 2mo in advance, which of course I never remember to do.
Worst of all though was the dentist himself. Dr. Kern came in in his everyday clothes, no lab coat, no smock. That meant he was leaning over me in his button down shirt, which had the top three buttons unbuttoned and chest hair spilling out. He talked about how he is only doing dentistry now because of his commitment to low-cost dentistry and about how awful my insurance was and how no other dentists accepted them any more because their agreed to prices were so low. All in all, he came across very snake-oil salesman like.

Overall negative impression; office hours very limited (closed mondays and fridays), found it difficult to get an appt for an emergency (filling fell out; in a lot of pain) until I pressed the issue and spoke with the supervisor. Orginially they told me I would have to wait TWO weeks!
Gumline cavity treatment resulted in a my filing falling out in THREE weeks. Had to return for an emergency appt. Found out another dentist there had put in the wrong type of filling. Had the tooth drilled on again and filled. Was told if it fell out I would have no choice but to have the tooth capped.
A year later, it fell out too! Needless to say, in my opinion, if the correct filling type had been used the first time I would not be in the position of having to have the tooth capped! (every time they drill more of your tooth is removed)
Patients have virtually no privacy while being treated as there are no treatment rooms; just screens between chairs. Not bad if you are only having your teeth cleaned but when you are having more extensive dental work done it is distracting and stressful to not have more private accomodations.
The staff was overall very friendly but seemed overworked with paperwork at the check-in/out counter.

The crowns I received from Dr. Kern look great and do not hurt. However, the way in which Dr. Kern conducts his business and speaks about and to other patients in front of me made me uncomfortable. On top of which his office staff (the ones who do the billing) are incompetant at best and cost me hundreds in billing errors. I will be finding a new dentist.

POOR WORK DONE IN NORFOLK OFFICE . BAD ATTITUDE BY DOCTOR KERN. NEEDS TO IMPROVE HIS ANGER PROBLEM WHILE PATIENTS ARE IN HIS OFFICE HAVING WORK DONE ON THEM .NEEDS TO FOCUS ON HIS WORK INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING TO OTHER WORKERS IN HIS OFFICE.HAD TO HAVE CROWNS REDONE BY OTHER DENTIST IN NORFOLK VIRGINIA OFFICE SEVERAL MONTHS BACK ! I WILL NOT RETURN TO DOCTOR KERN FOR ANY FURTHER DENTAL WORK!
