Patient Review 1:

I cannot praise Dr. Specker and his staff highly enough. I first went to Dr. Specker for a cracked tooth, which required a crown. It is still there, along with the others added in the next ten or twelve years (my family has very bad teeth). When 'emergency' treatment was needed, I had no problems in getting in to see him, including one weekend visit.

He and his staff are knowledgeable, talented, experienced. Most importantly - they Care!

I have been going to Dr. Specker for 13 years, ever since I moved to SF. When I moved my teeth were a mess. I had all my wisdom teeth pulled, fillings re-done and about 7 crowns...yes 7!

I have gone thru a lot of work and I have never been disappointed. Dr. Specker's knowledge and skill is unparalleled and my teeth are stronger, cleaner and better looking thanks to him.

I highly recommend trying him out.

Dr. Specker was recommended to me by an ENT specialist from UCSF for jaw pain and he's seen me through jaw surgery, dental implant, gum surgery, crowns and root canals and a major accident. I have changed my PCP doctor, my HMO insurance coverage and have moved out of San Francisco, but I stay with Dr. Specker. He is a quality dentist, keeps updated on the latest dentistry and his office staff have been with him for years. He has corrected bad dental work from another dentist on my husband and helped him when in pain. Dr. Specker would not recommend anything that was not necessary. I recommend Dr. Specker as a good dentist and trust him.

About Hygienist: Gail has been my and my husband's hygentist and cleaned our teeth for many years. Gail always teaches us about good dental hygiene and is very friendly and professional.

On a scale of 1-10, Dr. Specker is a 15! He is absolutely the best. You just know you are in good hands, he is so knowledgeable. He is absolutely a top-notch professional, plus being patient and nice. His staff is terrific; they've all been with him for years, which says alot. The office itself is great, with a beautiful view of the Bay. He has taken care of me for 20+ years including dental work from the mundane to the truly complex, including crowns, emergency root canal (yes, he does them himself!), and most recently invisalign (highly successful). He identified the fact that I needed gum surgery and found me the right specialist-dentist; then he stayed in the picture and made sure everything was OK. He identified the fact that I needed implants (not once, but twice) and found me another specialist-dentist; then he again stayed in the picture and made sure everything was OK.

Don't think twice. Dr. Specker is the real deal. You will thank me!

Dr. Specker saved my career. After years of neglect I was down to only 16 teeth. Most of my back teeth had been removed in the past 10 years. When my front teeth, which had root canals, started to break off a friend referred me to Dr. Specker. Something had to be done since in my line of work (engineering) I need to give presentations to clients almost daily. Looking like a street person did not have great appeal to clients at work and my friends.

My first visit was a thorough clearing and check up. Dr. Specker diagnosed that all but 4 or 5 teeth had extensive damage. He gave me a choice of rebuilding my badly damaged teeth or to get an appliance (false teeth) that would attach to my remaining 4 healthy teeth. I elected the appliance which was about one tenth of the cost of the repair of all my badly damaged teeth.

During my second appointment Dr. Specker attached metal posts into my 4 eye teeth and took a full impression of my teeth and gums (this took about 4 hours). The third visit, which sounds scary, took only a little over 4 hours with minimum discomfort. He removed all the teeth except the 4 with the metal posts. He then snapped the new appliances over the posts and I walked out of his office with a full set of teeth.

Dr. Specker is a terrific dentist. He did a wonderful job on the major dental work I had needed done for years (many crowns), yet has helped me avoid more major work when a more minor intervention could do the trick. Other dentists in his previous building used to pop in to ask Dr. Specker for advice on their cases. He also has a great sense of humor and great chair-side manner, and the dental chairs have a lovely view of the city. Dr. Specker is easily reachable in the event of a dental emergency, and has always accommodated my needs. I also love the office staff, and would not hesitate to recommend this dental practice.

The Dr. was able to stabilize a cracked root that 3 other dentists had failed to correct. He's a craftsman!

About Hygienist: Very gentle, I fall asleep in the chair while she's cleaning yet she does excellent work.

Any doubts about this Dr.?, set them aside.

I take ratings seriously but still rate Dr. Specker with a perfect score. Following an unfortunate accident that shattered and cracked most of my teeth, Specker set to work to, first, make me comfortable and took care of the serious items and then, when it was time 2+ years after my surgeries, worked closely with my Ortho to fix my teeth and assist in fixing a seriously flawed misalignment issue.

I thought I was going to be disfigured and have bite issues for the rest of my life. Specker was one of 2 key figures in making that not happen. Not only is my bite now perfect, my veneers look great and still look like natural teeth. Never in my life have I been given comments on my smile. I do now.

Specker performed 10root canals on me - piece of cake. And when you need the needle of Novocaine, he has a magical way of making it not hurt so much.

Specker may not have the most gentle touch at times but his touch is the right touch. He doesn't take shortcuts. He does what needs to be done.

The staff is friendly and professional and if you need something to concentrate on, the Bay view is exceptional. Thank Specker and staff. You are all stars in my book. I can't thank you enough!!!! --Rawn

I went to Dr. Specker after having neglected my teeth for nearly 15 years, and he immediately began a process of reversing the damage I had done to my teeth and gums, including replacing an old bridge that had never quite fit correctly with one that was absolutely perfectly fit and comfortable. In addition to the bridge, there were a few other cosmetic and other treatments necessary (filling of pockets and a couple of cavities to name a few), all of which were handled with great care by Dr. Specker and his dental assistant, with little or no pain at any time. Dr. Specker is a thoughtful and genuinely friendly dentist that I would be happy to refer anyone to go see if they want a fabulous dentist with great skills and an equally fun personality. Even if he's not on your dental health plan (and who is these days), he's worth every penny. In addition, Dr. Specker's staff is friendly and helpful, and a great compliment to his practice. If I worked in the dental field, these are people I would truly enjoy working with. Go see Dr. Specker. You won't be sorry you did.

About Hygienist: Gail is a wonderful hygienist, and knows exactly when to give you a break while cleaning your teeth, and she's very efficient and will have you in and out as quickly as possible, all while doing an excellent job cleaning and polishing your teeth. I've never left Gail's chair without feeling better then when I arrived (yes, she's really that good).

Outstanding!, not just as a dentist, but as a human being. The work he has done for me over the years has been beyond satisfactory. He is tireless in his efforts to do what is best for you. When I was in danger of losing a front tooth, he kept me from losing it for a long time, until he had no option but to move to other options. He never tries to do work he feels he is not qualified to perform, and he refers you only to excellent people. His ability to keep pain to a bare minimum is amazing to me, and he works efficiently, expertly, and with great humor. I have had many interesting conversations about dentistry, and also about many other things. I have learned a great deal from him. He makes himself available even when it is not his regular working day, and he does that without giving one the feeling that it is done reluctantly. I like Dr. Specker not just as a dentist, but as a person worth knowing. I might add that my wife has similar feelings about him. He maintains a great staff, and his very interesting and lovely wife works there as well. It feels as homey as a dentist's office can feel.

I first went to Dr. Specker the day I had a bad fall (after being released from the emergency room). I was in bad shape, bleeding and couldn't close my mouth (my front teeth were knocked inward, though not out/loose).

Dr. Specker and EVERY member of his staff were indescribably kind and extremely knowledgable.

Since then, through several years of follow-up and regular care, I've continued to receive the highest possible standard of care, paired wih compassion, from Dr. Specker AND from all of his caring and friendly staff (reception, nurses/hygienists, everyone!).

They know me (and my history and needs, as well as friendly banter and simple overall kindness) on sight and by name.

I count myself very lucky to have found this doctor and his team (I'd name the others but I'm not sure it's appropriate to do so on the internet - and I'd also hate to miss/overlook someone!).

I've referred all of my friends and co-workers.

He even asks regularly about my (non-dental) general health.

And when I needed ortho, he knew all of the local providers' strengths and weaknesses, and helped me select my best option, given my insurance and financial limitations.

My heartfelt gratitude and highest possible recommendation.

Some dentist have referred to me as a difficult patient. Actually, I had to be nearly comatose before I would let someone in my mouth. Dr. Specker is outstanding. He really needs sedation for me at all. He is very skilled and suggests only what I absolutely need.

I have been seeing Dr. Specker ever since moving to SF in 1993 and have sent him many referrals as well. Within a year after moving here I needed Gum Surgery, having unsuccessfully having tried this in Boston. He was not only able to calm me enough to do the surgery but the end result has been no more surgery.

His staff is impeccible. Gail has been cleaning my teeth, 4 times a year for the past 10 years and she is amazing. The rest of the team are extremely friendly and professional and I would HIGHLY reccomend Dr Specker & his team.

I became acquainted with Dr. Specker while he was still attending dental school. When I questioned the work and cost of my dentist in Seattle, I flew to San Francisco for an evaluation. I was so impressed with Dr. Specker that I had him begin work immediately. After two subsequent visits, I am happy to say that my teeth look and feel so much better! Dr. Specker is very skillful and concerned about the well-being of his patients. His work was greatly admired by my orthodontist, the head of faculty dentistry at the University of Washington.

I would not hesitate to return to San Francisco for any subsequent work.

I go to Dr. Specker for standard dental care - fillings, crowns, perio, prophylaxis, etc. He's simply terrific. He is highly competent, relaxed and self-assured. Oral surgery is never pleasant, but he comes close. I had a particularly toublesome problem, the source of which other dentitists were unable to find. He found and corrected it immediately. Best dentist I've ever had. His hygenist, Gayle, is terrific as well. As is his staff - Wanda, his assistant, and Maggie, his wife. Special bonus: hands down best view from a dental chair in the Bay Area!

I am in the middle of a very complex implant surgery and restoration process. As a fairly young, professional woman I did not want to have to wear removable dentures while undergoing the process. I expressed my concerns to Dr. Specker and I am extremely pleased to say that although I still have a long way to go the initial temporary fixed appliance that Dr. Specker made for me looks and feels like my natural teeth. His office staff is wonderful. Dr. Specker is creative and skillful and I couldn't be happier with the process at this point.
