Case Summary

Last Full Mouth X-Ray: 4 weeks ago
Last Cleaning: 4 weeks ago
Case Description
I have about eight teeth with pockets 5-6 deep and one about 10 deep. The periodontist recommended full mouth scaling at a cost of 334 per quadrant and 120 for additional examination. The scaling/planing is done by the dental hygenist. Dr. says if this doesn't work surgery may be necessary at 1512 per Quadrant (for those quadrants that don't respond to the scaling. X rays don't seem to show bone loss but the DR. says the clinical evaluation is paramount. Does the treatment sound appropriate. Is the cost in line. Thank you.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

I second that advice! However, what you should really have is a proper restorative plan. Prior to any periodontal treatment, you should see a Prosthodontist -the specialist in restorative dentistry and implants, or a good general dentist you can trust, for a complete treatment plan. As a Prosthodontist, I often see people who spend a fortune on unnecessary treatment of Perio and root canals, to later find out that the teeth cannot be used for proper restorations. Let someone qualified guide you in obtaining proper treatment. I will gladly see you in my office for proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

It''''s pretty standard and common with your description. The cost of doing nothing is your teeth and general health.
