Case Description
I have pretty severe bone loss behind #21. My referred (by United Concordia) periodontist suggested a process involving removing portions of my gums around the infected area, effectively forever exposing the roots of the teeth in the area.
I asked if there was an alternative to this gum removing. I felt I got an evasive answer and no alternatives were offered.
I need a second opinion and I can't afford it and my insurance won't help. This procedure will exhaust my marginal benefits for the remainder of this year as it is.
I got a panoramic xray last week and a single tooth close up too. I had a deep root scaler done in January and some kind of fiber optic laser procedure that was supposed to kill all the badness between my teeth and gums too.
Can you help, before I have to commit to this gum losing procedure? Thanks.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi, Dr Gary Moore here. I am sorry to hear about your problem. Insurance responce you got is typical-they are not here to help you, after all it will cost them money if they do. We fight with insurance companies all the time.. Getting to your problem, ist sounds like you have a "boney defect". basically an area that has lost bone, and the tissue cannot heal properly around it. If you don''''t get it repaired, it will lead to tooth loss. I would be happy for you to see us for a free consult, we would need you to get a copy of your xrays, or have them email them (if they are digital) to you and forward them to the office.I always recommend a sencond opinion with patients who are not comfortable with any diagnosis.. Give us a call-791-1010

Sounds like you have periodontal disease. Think of your gums attaching to your teeth much like how your skin attaches to your finger nail. Like the cuticle of your finger nail, where the gums attach to the teeth a pocket or valley is formed. In gum disease these pockets get deep, so deep that you cannot get the bristles of a brush into them to clean out the plaque and bacterial buildup. Antibacterial rinses are not all that effective either, as they do not get in and stay in the pocket around your teeth to kill all the bacteria. It sounds like your periodontist has done what he can to sterilize or kill the bacteria in the pockets around your teeeth. What he wants to do now is to reduce the pockets so you can keep them clean. Other treatment possibilities would include perio trays, more frequent cleanings and augmentation with arrestin( an antibiotic that stays in the pocket for about a month). If you would like to discus this further you can call my office for a free consult. Let my front desk know that I offered you a free consult on Dr Oogle, and also it would be helpfull if you brought a copy of your x-rays with you.
