Case Description
I've done as much research as I can find, and have done a consultation with a cosmetic dentist, but am still wavering and unsure.

I have an overbite of roughly 1/2-3/4 of a cm, mostly cause by my two front teeth, and the lateral incisor on one side. Lowers are in better shape, with some crookedness, mostly the front/center 4, but that's a secondary concern.

I currently need to get a few implants for my lower molars, and am curious mostly as to pricing on those.

I have no crowns, dentures, etc, and the remaining teeth are healthy.

The bigger issue is in trying to get a feel for what can be done with veneers, or via 'six month braces.' I have to give presentations often enough that I really do not prefer braces, at least for a singificant length of time (prior consultation estimated 2 years for 'normal' braces), but do want to consider the options, and linguals or ceramics may be an option.

When discussing with a cosmetic dentist, he seemed to believe there is no issue with the overbite being corrected, and did show some pictures, however none of the cases were very similar to mine, and I have a concern as to how much the teeth will have to be ground down, and even then, if it will be a significant improvement, moreso at a price of $12500 for 8 upper veneers!

I have no doubt it would be AN improvement, but I'm unsure if it will be enough of one to warrant the high cost (out of pocket, and I work for a living..), as well as future replacements every 5-15 years or so from research. Additionally, apparently he 'doesn't like the imaging software,' so while he will do the wax model buildup, I'm unsure that I will get enough of a visual in order to decide if this is for me, not to mention that at that time, I would be expected to pay for a significant portion of the veneer cost.

I have found someone in Raleigh who does veneers, as well as 'six month braces,' and have an appointment coming up for a consult, but she has been in business for less time, so any guidance would be appreciated. Both are LVI 'certified,' but neither are Orthodontists.

My preference was to find someone that was experienced with both traditional orthodontics, as well as cosmetic dentistry, in order to hopefully get a more unbiased opinion of options.

I believe my main concern with veneers is that to my thinking, the 'arch' of my upper teeth will still be maintained, for the most part, to an 'outside point' of my protruded teeth, and the teeth on the sides of them will simply be built up to match. Is this a reasonable assessment? If that's indeed the case, then I would effectively still retain much of the overbite, although the 'transition' from front to more rearward teeth would be much nicer.

Any help or suggestions?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.
