Case Description
Soon after the local anesthesia was injected I began shaking all over and my heart rate speeded up dramatically. When I asked the dental assistant what was going on she said it was a normal reaction from the epinephrine in the local. She said it would only last for a couple minutes and this was a very common reaction especially in women. I am 56 years old, weigh approximately 290 lbs and take 25 mg atenelol per day. I have a history of tachicardia. The inicident lasted over ten minutes and after that I continued to have heart palpitations. I was very concerned however the dental assistant acted very unconcerned. Was it appropriate to have given someone with my history and medication a drug with epinephrine? I have further procedures to be done and I am trying to figure out if I can trust my new dentist.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Most all local anesthetics have epinephron in the and this is not an unusual reaction. If you presented to the emergency room with a heart attack one of the first drugs they would give you would be epinephron. So don''''t worry and lose some weight an you will be able to go off that atenolol.
